Class Descriptions
For our regularly-scheduled classes
It's sometimes hard to describe the range of classes at the Monkey. We have quite a bit of Gentle Yoga, and quite a bit of Flow Yoga. But there are a large number of classes that fall somewhere in between the spectrum of intensity. Please look at the descriptions below, and ask questions. We want you to modify as needed in any class you attend, but we also recognize that not every class is appropriate for every person.
If you are healing from an injury or medical condition, please note:
The best classes for you would be "Yoga for Healing" or "Gentle Yoga". We also offer Private Yoga instruction, if you feel that would be a better fit.

Gentle Yoga
SUPER GENTLE!!! No experience required. We'll work on gentle stability and mobility, focusing on stress reduction. We don't do a lot of getting up and down on the mat (so if you have a hard time getting up or down, this class would be a good one for you). Some of our Gentle Yoga classes will also infuse some Restorative or Yin yoga into the practice.

Restorative/Gentle
Gentle, gentle, gentle! We want you to de-stress, unwind, get some true rest (deep rest is different than sleep). This class is appropriate for nearly everyone. It is slow-paced, with lots of time for modifications. We want this class to fit you. Let your instructor know what you need. The restorative portion of class is an opportunity for deep rest with resting postures supported by yoga props. I think you'll really appreciate the pace & the format of this class.

Restorative Yoga & Essential Oils
This gentle, restorative yoga class will also include aromatherapy with essential oils blended specifically for the theme of the class that day. The yoga sequences & the oils are carefully chosen to support well-being & balance in your life. Since it's a Friday night class, it'll be the perfect unwinding before your weekend.

Yoga for Well Being
Very similar to a "Gentle Yoga" class. This is Tamara Milliken's signature class! She uses her background in therapeutic yoga to create a very balancing, healing practice for students of all levels. Each Yoga For Well Being class has a different topic, and therefore a different focus.

Park Yoga
Park Yoga is located at Millwood Park on Frederick, just east of Argonne (next to the fire station in Millwood).
Since we are practicing outside, class size is not limited.
It is up to you if you'd prefer to wear a mask. We ask that you place your mat 6 feet or more from the other students.
If the weather is unruly & we need to cancel, we will post on the Facebook page in advance.

Yoga for Every Body
A mixed-level class based on who shows up. It can range anywhere from quite gentle to fairly active. Our instructors are very open to suggestions before class, so let us know what you want and need from your practice!
If you have injury or medical condtions, please note: if you are healing from serious injury or medical issues, you may need Gentle Yoga or Yoga for Healing instead of this particular class. While it's all-level, we teach to the "group average", which means it could be of a higher intensity than you need.

Flow::All-Level
Our All-Level Flow is an active class, focusing on movement with the breath. It's designed to build the strengh, stability, and technical understanding to work toward some of our bigger postures, such as arm balances and inversions. If you feel fairly comfortable with this class, you should try our Flow::Intermediate classes!!!
Please note: if you are healing from serious injury or medical issues, you may need Gentle Yoga or Yoga for Healing instead of this particular class. While it's all-level, we teach to the "group average", which means it could be of a higher intensity than you need.

Sunrise Yoga (aka All-Level Flow)
An early morning, mixed-level flow class (see Flow::All-Level also). Perfect for the just-waking-up body!!

Flow::Foundations & Beyond
Working from a strong base, each student will have the ability to explore their practice on a deeper, more dynamic level. Each set of weekly classes will focus on one foundation element of the yoga practice, every week a new topic. All levels are encouraged to come and grow their practice by attending either an individual class or as a complimentary set.
Please note: if you are healing from serious injury or medical issues, you may need Gentle Yoga or Yoga for Healing instead of this particular class. While it's all-level, we teach to the "group average", which means it could be of a higher intensity than you need.

Flow::Intermediate
Intermediate Flow is a more intense, semi-advanced-level class, focusing on movement with the breath. Some yoga experience strongly suggested. This class will explore heat-building sequences, working into deeper, more advanced postures, such as arm balances and inversions. It is always recommended that you take your time, and really honor your body's limitations. Have fun, and bring your water (and maybe a towel)!
Please note: This class is not for beginners, or for people with significant limitations, injuries, or medical conditions. If you have a solid yoga practice, general health, and stamina for our All-Level Flow, and you feel ready to proceed with advanced yoga postures, this class is for you.
